Grand Pa Dunn born on horseback
Ghosts riding with the wind in a hale of fire heading straight into the bad lands, is how Great Grand Pa and his wife, a local indian girl, left the Black Hills. Great Grand Pa came from a multinational family living in the Black Hills for several generations trading horses for alcohol and guns with the Crow, Black Foot, and every other tribe in that area. The old boys skill at horsemanship paid off that day.
There was no place to go but west. According to the story, more than one nation wanted his scalp. The United States army wanted to hang him for selling guns to the indians. Those were times when the United States eastern expansion was pushing indians out of their own lands. Before the push west, the United States Government needed the horses to prosecute the civil war. Then it was ok the trade guns and whisky to indians for horses. It must have been a bad violation of indian lore to be willing to scalp their whisky and gun dealer. Apparently, few in the Black Hills liked Great Grand Pa Dunn. So, westward ho it was.
Oregon Trail was well known around the 1870s. Great Grand Pa was very versed at trail life. Great Grand Pa wasn't one of them thar eastern city folk heading west. He was an accomplished range rider having lived all his life on the open range. Although the Missouri to San Francisco line had been completed around 1869, the old boy didn't take the train because he probably couldn't afford it having to leave the Black Hills in such a hurry.
Nature being the way it is, a son was born on the way to California. Probably the reasons why they had to leave the area in such a hurry. To say Grand Pa Dunn could ride a horses before he could walk would be a gross understatement. He was born on a horse along the Oregon Trail.
The family came across the plains, through Utah over to Red Bluff California. They seem to take to the comforts of city life. After a stay in Red Bluff, the family moved south to the San Francisco peninsula and relocated in a county called San Mateo. Grand Pa Dunn's dad was recruited to obtain and train horses for the people living in San Francisco. They wanted someone good and this family truly qualified. One wonders how people use to get around before the days of the automobile?
In them days, schooling was done on the job. Grand Pa Dunn didn't get through high school before he started working with his dad around horses. The family was well known for their ability to work these mighty steeds. The family specialized in trotters and polo ponies.
The above picture of Grand Pa Dunn and friends was taken at the San Mateo Polo Grounds a way long time ago. Neither the horses, the Polo Grounds, nor Grand Pa Dunn are around today. Grand Pa Dunn became chief stable master at both Tanforan Race Track and Bay Meadows Race Track. Tanforan Race Track is now a shopping mall and Bay Meadows Race Track will soon be a business park. That is if they aren't allowed to put in slot machines. The California Indians are against the race track putting in gaming machines. How things are different yet the same. Grand Pa Dunn probably wouldn't have liked the gaming machines either, but he would be sad to see Bay Meadows Race Track shut down too.
What the hell has this got to do with Wild Horse Acres you say?
A dream Grand Pa Dunn had was to own a Horse Ranch. That never happened. Unfortunately Grand Pa Dunn drank a lot and the automobile didn't help his career any. Grand Pa Dunn use to day dream about a great horse ranch. At least he enjoyed telling that story to his grand son of one of his daughters..
Grandson Johnny, obtained the first parcel of this property in a foreclosure. In his own mind, he started to live Grand Pa Dunn's dream after he visited the area. John Christopher Burr, the present owner's attorney, known as JCB, and Le Roy Cramer, collector and old time family patriarch in Lassen County California viewed this property in 1996 with the owner. In researching the property it was found that over 1,200,000 acres adjacent to this land was owned by the United States Government and was generally part of a wild horse preserve. This land is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, BLM. Additionally, Lassen County California and surrounding area has several million more acres dedicated to Federal and State parks and wilderness areas. After 1996 the Grandson Johnny assembled 15 parcels, totalling 1700 acres, now known as Wild Horse Acres after the wild horse preserve.
Grandson Johnny's other part of the dream was to put an electric power plant on the property too. Royalties would pay for the ranch. This was realistic as Grandson Johnny is an Electronic Engineer by trade, and the property has both an industrial electric transmission line capable of supplying power to various customers, and an industrial gas line capable of driving such an electric power generation plant.
Dreams come and dreams go. A car wreck, a string of law suits, the economy crashing, and this dream got beseeched by reality. Unfortunately, Grandson Johnny, now calling himself Wild Horse Johnny, found out that California doesn't want to pay for electric power. Californian's just want to get complain about it. Another problem comes from the lack of funds cause by three law suits to prosecute the development of a power plant and for that matter, the formation of a horse ranch. But, what really messed the dream up was the HEART ATTACK. Heart Attacks seem to destroy dreams and force upon one the facts of reality. It became painfully clear that Wild Horse Johnny isn't going to ride the range. Thus, Wild Horse Johnny's problems can be a real benefit to you.
Wild Horse Johnny assembled Wild Horse Acres by purchasing everything that wasn't owned by the US government adjacent to the lands he held at the time. Prior to economic problems, an offer was made for the parcels across the road owned by "The" Tinstons. Barbara Tinston quoted $10,000 per acre for here thousand plus acres.
You can purchase Wild Horse Acres for SIGNIFICANTLY less than that. Anyway, the Tinston's property wasn't made part of Wild Horse Acres.
Not Just Land! The dream required marketing a name which would allow a business to be run on the property that had something to do with horses. The name Wild Horse Acres was used on the internet to describe this property since 1996. Besides assembling the land, there has been significant money, time, and effort put into the name Wild Horse Acres. Searching for Wild Horse Acres on Alta Vista, Yahoo, and Google, to name some public search engines, has Wild Horse Acres as the top domain. In addition to the land, along comes the names:
wildhorseacres.us
wildhorseacres.ws
wildhorseacres.biz
wildhorseacres.org
wildhorseacres.net
wildhorseacres.com
wildhorseacres.info
The point is of this story is simple. Although the owner still likes the property, and will follow through with the dream in time, may be, the reality of it is selling the property at a discount would be best at the moment. This is to your advantage. Make an offer.
